Forbes Shire is located on the banks of the Lachlan River, in the rich Lachlan Valley. The Shire includes Forbes plus the village areas Bedgerebong, Wirrinya, Corinella and Ootha.

The Shire has gold rush and bushranger history and is known for its historic buildings and important heritage places.
